Update time!

Well well, I haven't updated properly for ages, so here goes nothing:

Work - I'm working at the Tesco call centre again for the next 10 weeks in a temporary position. It's a promotion Tesco are running at the moment, and it will be the easiest job in the world, however this means it has the potential to get really old, really fast. Still, reliable income! I've been training so far, but from tomorrow my shifts will be 8am-2pm Monday to Friday.

Photo things - Photo things have been consisting mostly of edits as I've been busy with work. It's probably about time I took a week or so out of shooting to catch up on edits. I have been working with some new models, who have been great! I also applied to do HNC Photography at Dundee College, so shall see how I feel when August rolls around. Still not sure if I should spend another year studying, however I'm hoping that the course will not just be useful for gaining a qualification in photography, but for networking and looking at approaching things differently. I'm still not sure, so we shall wait and see on that one. Been offered a place though so that's good.

Games - My sim in Sims 3 had triplets today. Oh god! I'm too scared to go back and play it because I'm responsible for a small army of baby girls. I was playing Silent Hill Homecoming for a while, need to pick it up again. Also downloaded Sonic 3 on XBL, which is a direct port, looking terrible on a high-def telly.

Cats - After much talking about it, Malc and I started thinking about getting another kitty. My friend Alana from Newtyle was looking for homes for the yet-unborn kittens, and I said I would possibly be interested. Anyway, last Friday she called me and said that although the kittens were just hitting 7 weeks old, they were eating proper cat food, usng the litter tray fine, and cleaning themselves properly, so would we like to pick him up a week early. Deciding that a friday would be best to get him as we are all off work over the weekend, Pete took us to pick him up. We named him Korben to match with Leeloo, any other name just wouldn't have been the same. Leeloo wasn't incredibly impressed, but was a bit curious about him. For the first 2 days she hissed and growled at him whenever they made eye contact, but now they love each other. In less than 5 days they have become quite used to each other, and now play together, sleep together, eat together and stuff! Its very cute to see them play together, and Leeloo even decided to give him a bath today! Korben himself is very good, and is going to grow up into a very cuddly cat - he just likes being as close to people as possible!

Teeth - I had a tooth out. If I haven't moaned about it to you already, I'll just let you know that the actual process of getting a tooth out is definitely the best part of the whole process. Sitting up for 2 days and nights spitting blood is not the fun part. I never understood how people could moan so much about getting teeth out. I mean some kids get it, don't they? Now however, toothless folk have my absolute sympathy. Bleh!

Kirkcaldy this weekend to celebrate upcoming birthdays. Other than that, I'm a working girl now, Jeeves!

Don't think there's anything else to mention, just letting you know I'm still alive ;)

Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.
Associations by nomiwolf

1)Photography
- I started taking a lot of pictures on my compact camera to basically get me out of the house, and as an escape from my coursework. I discovered I actually liked taking photos more than doing my coursework, and eventually decided to give up web programming and do photography. I love taking photos, but lately I've been irritated at it not being a stable enough income for me to live on, and I don't know how to make it work :/

2)Kitties
- OMG I LOVE CATS!! For some reason, I just think cats are awesome. I know you get some mean ones, but generally I think they are beautiful creatures. People say cats are way too independent to be pets and don't show any affection, but I have to disagree with that one. I find cats to be ideal pets as they are affectionate and depend on you, but they can also be left to their own devices for more than 3 hours. I despise anyone who is cruel to animals, but people who are cruel to cats just freak me out.

3)Resident Evil
- LOL I've just come off playing Mercenaries on RE5 :p I've been into the series since the release of the first one in 1998. I was so lame, I'd draw my own maps and walkthroughs :/ Despite this, I've never played half of the games, such as Gun Survivors and the online one. FILTH, BILGE and CHILD POISON!! RE5 is one of the best games I've played since RE4, but then I would say that, wouldn't I? I've been playing RE5 so much, I actually had a dream that I left Malcolm for Albert Wesker. Couldn't have picked a good guy, oh no!

4)Hair dye
- One of these days, my hair is going to leave in protest! I had my hair dyed for the first time when I was about 13-14. I got little blonde (WTF?!) highlights in it. I had it dyed bright red when I was about 14-15 and have been dyeing it different colours ever since. Its currently a dark brown/almost black colour. I stopped updating people on my hair colour because it changes so often its hard to keep up. I like it red the best, but its so hard to keep, and looks terrible when left to fade. If I could genetically modify myself to have permanent red hair, I would :p

5)The little mermaid
- Bwaaaaah OmNomNomi why did you pick this?! I guess I like her hair because its long and red. Why is Under the Sea in japanese so funny?!

The End ^___________^

Hi guys :D

I'm updating my links page on www.kirstylegg.co.uk and wondered if anyone wants to swap links? We all know that having your website link on other websites appeases the Google God, so there's no reason not to! Unless you don't have a website... That's a pretty good reason :)

I also just added some images, so if you are bored go and have a nosey.

x

Hello :)

So Malc and I are a bit bored and wondered if anyone fancied coming over on Sunday just for a wee gathering and our usual banter I suppose. Anytime Sunday is cool, I know people work and stuff so it doesn't have to be late :)

We are also gonna start going swimming cause its getting sunny and Malc gets out of work at 4.30 so if anyone wants to start coming with us in the afternoons let me know :) I need to be more sociable!

I've been applying for a few wee jobs around town so hopefully I will hear back from places within the next few weeks. I'd love to get the job that's going in Topshop for some reason. It's probably dangerous for me to work in a clothes shop though.

We got Leeloo some catnip and a cat tunnel thing with holes in, which drive her mental, it's really cute!

I've had my emopants on all week, and as soon as I post about it, I feel better the next day and things start looking up again!

I've got an interview for a kilt hire place on Monday, so that's perked me up a bit, and I had some great feedback from a model who wants to do more stuff, and I have a few good potential shoots for shops coming up soon. Got a meeting with a bridal place today actually. I'm so glad I printed out my portfolio, printed work is soooo much nicer than just showing people stuff on a laptop.

Also got a corset I bought on Ebay for £2.96 today and it's very nice! A little out of shape but actually looks better than I thought it would :) Will post photos later. Think I might do myself up and do some self portraits cause I haven't done any for ages, but having difficulty coming up with a creative idea. Waiting on an A4 sheet of perspex arriving as I want to try a few things like making my own paint splatters and stuff.

Downside so far today is one of our dragon mugs smashed. It was sitting on the kitchen counter, but the ferocity of our rattling washing machine sent it wobbling to the edge :( RIP (literally, LOL) dragon mug!

Welcome to the rollercoaster that is my life :)

I'm looking for a job. I'm sick of draining away Malcolm's hard-earned cash. I'm sick of the irregular income that comes with trying to do something you love for a living. I love wearing my emo pants. I hate writing business plans. WHAT DO ALL THESE BIG WORDS MEAN?!?!

I hate the dole people because they decided that as Malc and I are a co-habiting couple, he should be paying for my every whim. Gay.

On the plus side, Blackberries are awesome and Resident Evil 5 makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

/emogay

Holiday in France

Before I go on about the holiday, Malc got me a Red DS Lite for Valentine's day. I got him his own camera, so prepare for his own view of the world coming to you soon :p

Well, on Fri 13th Feb, Malc and I were packed up and ready to go! We were kindly picked up by Andy and Sarah, and all made our way to Kirkcaldy. We spent the time there having some food, making Malc drink some wine to dull his nerves a bit, then went to bed at 10pm in preperation for leaving at 3am for our 6am flight from Edinburgh to Geneva.

The flight was actually great, Malc wasn't as bad as I thought he would be, and the sun was rising as we flew so it was beautiful. Once we all landed in Geneva, it was a further 3 hours of car-journey to the French Alps. The ride was nice as I found everything out of the window pretty interesting, especially once we started going up the mountains.

The total rundown of guests were as follows: Moira and Graeme (Malc's parents), Andrew and Sarah (Malc's older bro and his wife), Gordon (Malc's twin bro), Jenny and Tony (Malc's older sis and husband), Johnny (Tony's bro), Janet and Kate (Malc's Aunt and cousin), Alison, Georgina, Alex and Hugo (Malc's Aunt and cousins) and Malc and I.

I don't want to be all "day 1 - hour 15" etc, so I'll just summarise - Skiing was hard at first but after a day of ski school I was able to go over small jumps and turn ok, and go down the scary nursery slope. I was a big grumpy mess most of the time because I developed what appeared to be a golf ball on the inside of my gum. Suffering with that wasn't enough apparently, and so I got the cold too :p It was sad because I started with so much energy and spirit for skiing, but quickly felt bogged down and gunky :( I also didn't sleep well for the first few nights, so not a pretty sight.

I had 4 days of ski school (missed one due to being ill, should have been 5 days) and it was pretty good, apart from the last day when the ski instructor decided to take us to the top of a mountain, to an area I would actually refer to as Space, and make us ski back down, which was pretty hellish!

We got lots of lovely food, which again thanks to my face/gum tumour was difficult to enjoy properly! Malc also ate SNAILS for a starter one night. yuck yuck yuck!

Unfortunately, Johnny fractured his arm 5 days into the holiday, while snowboarding. :(

It was a good holiday though, and I enjoyed spending time with Malc's family. I took photos, which I've uploaded to my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/kirstyleggdundee/ but not many of me skiing as I was too scared to take my camera up the slopes in case I fell on it!

I was glad to be home though, it's amazing how you miss the little things like your own bed and a pot noodle! :p Leeloo also missed us like crazy, judging by her reaction when we got back in the flat :) We haven't really got off to a good start back here though, as Malc was up most of the night with a cold, and my face tumour decided to... well, let's just say I've been awake since 2am continually cleaning out my mouth :/ goooooooood times!

Hope everyone is well! x

Holiday!

Yay, we are going skiing in France! Our flight leaves at 6.30am from Edinburgh tomorrow morning, so we are going to Malc's family's house in Kirkcaldy tonight. I actually thought I would feel a lot more anxious, but I am pretty happy about it. Must be all those nerve-wracking weddings dulling down my crazy anxiety!

Our flight also lands in Geneva, and we get a 3-hour bus ride back into France :) So technically we will be visiting Switzerland AND France in one day!

Lots of members of Malc's family going, so it should be a good laugh, especially as I'm not the only noob, thank god for that! Leeloo will be staying with my Aunt just up the road, taking her up there later today.

So, it's overly-commercialised-recognise-your-partner-or-your-bleak-singleness day tomorrow! Since we will be flying and Malc will probably not be in the best of moods until we get back on to solid ground, I decided to give him his present early to cheer him up a bit. He now has his own compact camera! He didn't want one, so I forced him to have one, and I think he likes it :) He keeps taking silly pictures with it anyway :p

I also picked up a new SB-900 flashgun for myself, and it's BEAUTIFUL, a real pro piece of kit. The quality and power of light is just brilliant, and it came with a ton of accessories. It also means that I can now effectively have 4 different lights for studio work, as both the new flashgun and my old SB-600 can be used remotely off camera.

I'm going to try blog/flickr/facebook from France. \o/ Hopefully I will get some good photos of people falling over and doing neat tricks on snowboards.

See you all later :D x

Missy La La's Boutique
Here are some of the photos I took for Missy La La's Boutique in Dundee. These can all be seen on my Flickr page.

I still have more photos particularly of the other models, I hope you enjoy these so far :)

Photos and makeup by me, clothes by Missy La La's, hair by Alana Finlay.

Kick Ass!

Today has been a good day - I found a long-lost hat. It's not even that special, it's just I thought it was lost forever and I finded it!

Also, Leeloo loves snow:

She likes to stare at it, shout at it, paw at it and swish her tail a lot the whole time :)

So, semi-proper update time.

I can't really remember what I've been up to, I'm sure it will come to me.

Most of my energy went into a fashion shoot for Missy La La's boutique in Dundee, which was great. A couple of pics are on Flickr already, but there are many many more to come. I meant to do a video of the shoot but I just didn't have time. I also had about 5 million bags with me - hair stuff, make-up stuff, background supports, cloths, lights, camera and lenses etc, mags, props and clothes. I had 3 models, and a lot of fun :) some of the photos are on My Flickr Page already but there are tons more to come. The owner, Kirsten, was absolutely brilliant at letting me do pretty much anything, and the models were great too :) I'd love to do stuff like this more often but there just aren't enough independent places in Dundee.

I had a Flickrmeet today too, which was fun but very very cold! Haven't even looked at those photos yet though.

Other than that, I'm just doing the same old stuff :) Holiday in 2 weeks! :D

Oh yeah I almost forgot - while walking through town at about 5pm the other day, some wee minky ned-spawn threw something at me and then had a right old laugh about it. Whatever they threw didn't hurt or leave any marks etc, but in that exact moment I realised that I am capable of killing someone.

Although after that I met Malc and he took me clothes shopping, which was totally awesome. :)

Jobless

So today I was fired. Kinda seen it coming since for the last week there has been absolutely no work at all, and they wouldn't train me on anything else since I was only on a temporary 3 month contract, and it's coming up for that now anyway, so it was only natural that I was one of the first to go. Apparently they have to get rid of 15 people as the department is downsizing/moving to India. Not really bothered about it since I knew it was temporary anyway. And I'm looking forward to having more time to put into my photography and stuff \o/

Other than that, not really got much to say :)

2009!

So, it's 2009!

I have to say, I'm quite happy with my life at the moment. 2008 was full of ups and downs, particularly financially. I've had several small jobs, working at Game, Currys and now the Tesco call centre. I've been moderately happy with the level of photography I've done this year, and it really is something I still absolutely love. I want to do tons more this year though.

High points of 2008:

- We got our Leeloo baby in February, and both of us absolutely love her to bits. Malc and I will often just end up in fits of giggles laughing at her being silly.
- I got A's for my photography coursework assignments! Admittedly I need to actually get the rest of the course finished, but A's are good!
- I went to see Nightwish and Bill Bailey, as well as the first Scottish Video Games Live gig.
- I started speaking to my gran again, as did my mum.
- I helped a cat give birth to 5 kittens!
- Malcolm and I hit our 4th anniversary <3
- We had a good holiday in Pitlochry
- I bought my own set of studio lights
- I got a Nikon D90!

And much more :)

I totally sucked at the photography challenge I set myself in 2008 - perhaps doing a photo I was proud of every single day on top of everything else was biting off a bit more than I can chew. This year I'm starting a new challenge, which is a photo every week centered around a theme. A group of Flickr-friends did it last year, so I'm jumping on the bandwagon in 2009. I really want to put a lot of effort into my photography this year, and I've finally got a business partner who isn't afraid to trust me and treats me as an equal. Hopefully we will get tons of great projects to work on this year, and I'll be able to live on photography alone as opposed to having a part time job.

I'm drawing more as well, cause I need another hobby besides checking the internet and taking photos :p

Last night's wee party was good, even though I talked so much I had a really sore throat for most of today! Must have talked everyone to death! It ended up being Malc and I, Rob, Jenna, Iain, Hannah, Hunter and Ami. It was good to see everyone, we had some good banter, especially when Jenna, Hannah and I started bitching about people we remember from school :p great way to start the year. I miss girly gossip stuff like that though :) Iain and Hannah left at 5.30am and I got to bed at around 6. Malc was a sissy and went to bed at 4am :p

Only resolutions I can think of is to do more photography stuff and hang out with friends more :)

Anyway, I hope everyone had good New Year celebrations, and here's to 2009!

Hey folks, if you are coming up tomorrow night, make it around 8 ish? Usual rules apply, we have some booze but if you don't like wine, bring some of your own :p we will have a variety of juice of course. There will probably be a fair bit of nibbles as usual and a lot of chocolate! Don't have the waffle maker yet so waffles are unlikely! T_T

Oh and bring kittens! :D

Obligation...

Well Malc basically said it all with his post, I don't wanna re-say the same things :) Needless to say, we had a good time with tons of awesome food, and returned with large bags full of presents. I was actually able to buy not bad presents for my family this year, and it was a great feeling being able to spend a bit of money on them getting them stuff they could actually use.

It was kinda weird spending my first Xmas without my family, but I was glad to be with Malc and had a good time with his family, who always spoil me.

Leeloo went to my Auntie's house, which I don't think she enjoyed as she spent most of the time hidden behind the sofas :( It's a shame cause my aunt loves cats and tried her very best with her, I just think Leeloo was too freaked out in a new place without us :( She was very happy to have us back though, and creeped out from behind Kate's sofa as soon as she seen our faces! It was very cute, and as soon as she got back to the flat, she was running around all happy and crazy.

My parent's came to pick us up yesterday afternoon, so we packed up all of our presents, squeezed them into the car and came home. Mum told me some awesome news, which was that while dropping my cousin Jodie off at my Gran's house, she went in to speak to Gran and they basically patched things up. My mum hasn't spoken to my gran in about 5 years if you'll remember, and I was happy to hear that for once they both laid it aside for Xmas. Apparently gran was very overwhelmed and got quite upset, so hopefully that means she's realised the mistakes of the past. It's funny because over Xmas I was thinking a lot about how most of my family don't speak to each other any more, which makes Xmas a bit sad because it's usually just me, mum, dad and Kev instead of the big old family gathering we used to have. Hopefully we will all be able to put the past behind us and be a family again at some point.

Our flat security door broke about 2 weeks ago, and I arranged to get it fixed again by my mum's friend which was good as he managed to get it done the day before Xmas eve, but he also wanted the £100 up front, which meant I had to pay it out of my Xmas money. Malc kindly re-imbursed me half though, and I'll get everyone's share from the other flats back, it will just take time :)

I think I'll go prod Malcolm now, we don't have much in the flat for eating and I want breakfast, so early morning trip to Tescos it is :p

Oh yeah, Malc bought a PS3, which I don't really have an issue with because it's his money and he needs to treat himself to something every once in a while :)

Also oh yeah, I bought myself DDR for the Xbox. Fuck yeah! I might actually film my first attempt at DDR in a very long time. Back to easy mode we gooooooooo!

We are still wanting to have people's over at New Year. I've asked a few people, but so far only Rob is confirmed! Come on peoples, we will have booze, chocs and potentially waffles plus DDR, plus a GIANT XMAS CRACKER FILLED WITH 40 CHOCOLATES!! HOW MUCH MORE AWESOME DO YOU FREAKING WANT?!?!

So yeah, Merry Christmas everyone, especially you Jenny, we have stuff for you, we are just too crap and lazy to have sent it before Xmas :(

New Year stuffs

Hey everyone, Malc and I don't really wanna go out on the town for New Year, but we don't fancy sitting in and doing nothing either, so would anyone like to come up for a relatively geeky but hopefully fun New Year celebration party thing? Let me know if you wanna :)

Merry Christmas as well. I am fabulously unorganised in the typical way of myself. Good show!

Ho hum...
I bought a sketchbook and a couple of sketchy-pens. This means I might actually draw something, but the most likely outcome is that I will scribble in it for about 15 seconds then realise I suck at drawing or can't come up with an idea, so I will go do something else....

I really want to make a comic, even though I've been saying it for years and never come up with a good enough story. I think if I ever did come up with a decent enough plot line, it would be fun to take photos of characters/backgrounds as reference for drawing, especially the things I'm crap at making up, like background scenes and detail in clothes, and action things. I think I should stop referencing everyone else's art and reference real life instead. I want proper characters that have as many faults as they have qualities, and suck as much as they kick ass. Have them do stuff that is meaningful in terms of the story, while doing stuff which means nothing at all...

Oh well, here goes my 15 seconds of scribbles! \o/

Also my xmas present from Malc is full of win - Photoshop Elements 7!

PS - New couchness:

I bought curtains to match today but haven't got them up yet.
