China pledges $10billion Africa Loans.

The West has previously accused China of plundering Africa's natural resources - to fuel its booming economy - and of overlooking the human rights records of some governments they do business with.

In the run up to the summit, China's state owned Global Times newspaper wrote "The West is envious of China and Africa drawing closer," and quoted one Chinese Africa expert as saying "Europeans view Africa as their own backyard."

Am I wrong in saying we can't really criticise anyone "plundering Africa's natural resources" considering we've done it for years and continue to buy up land just like the Chinese. The differentiating statement seems to be that we're not all that fond of dictatorships, unless of course they have a lot of crude oil (see Saudi Arabia).

If you watched that what seems like an unrelated video in the middle of that article it looks like we can expect immigration to China to increase so taking away our immigrants. How will this affect us in the future if we cannot stay competitive on a global scale?

 So I have a question. I was wondering if anyone elses cat lays on your side when you're laying down. Like I'll be laying down on my side trying to sleep when all of a sudden *BAM* a cat lands on top of me. Envy just LOVES to curl up and sleep in my side when I try and sleep. She's cute and everything and I've never had a cat who does this. So I was just curious.

Hey all,

My cat Tiki seems to have fleas (she has the telltale comma shaped specks of crud on her). I already had 3 months of Revolution for both my cats stocked up so I gave it to Tiki and my other cat, Cooper. Cooper was less than cooperative and I ended up giving him the Revolution kind of on the left size of his neck, not in the middle. Will it not work in that case? He doesn't have fleas, so I'm not overly concerned, but it'd be nice to know if I should be worried about him getting fleas.

I'm rather inexperienced with fleas since my cats when I was growing up didn't seem to get them. Besides washing my bedsheets and the other blankets my cats like to sit on, is there anything else I should do? (And obviously besides the 3 months of Revolution per cat).

Following up on recent eye posts I guess. I recently acquired another cat other than Topher, who you may or may not remember. Anyway, this new cat has these brown squiggles on the bottom of both eyes, which I am guessing are veins. She eats, drinks, plays and seems generally fine. I'm trying to make an appointment with a vet clinic who might give me a steep discount but they aren't open until tomorrow, so I thought I'd ask here. The googling that I've done in the meantime about cat eyes haven't turned up anything similar to what I'm seeing, although that may be because I don't know what to search for.

The deer at Chestnut Park were quite unperturbed by our presence. I guess the board walk railing was enough of a barrier to make them feel safe...especially from two old-timers with cameras.


Due to the fact that it hasn't rained in about 3 weeks, the swampy parts are drying out enough for the deer to bed down in.

Hello! I'm new to the community. :) I LOVE cats. I've had cats as pets all my life and I feel incomplete without one. ♥ I thought I'd share a couple of pictures of my cat. (=^_^=)

I woke up to a call from my bank's fraud squad this morning because someone had stolen my card details and was trying to buy phone top-ups - super scary! I think I must have used a dodgy ATM somewhere.

This weekend was Andrew's birthday, so we got him a membership to the Prince Charles Cinema, so that he can go to £1.50 movies in his free periods. Afterwards we met up with Emma, a massive dog licked my leg on the tube, Em dropped 5p and it ended up in the bottom of my shoe, and we went for mussels and beer at Belgo.

After dinner, we met up with Andrew and friends at The Cuban in Camden - a bar filled with couples dancing everywhere. Ben and Dave came too and Ben had an awesome skeleton t-shirt, which lights up when you take a photo. We were sat outside under an umbrella and heat fan in the garden and got very cold.

Afterwards we went for a cherry flavoured shisha pipe to warm us up, it was delicious!

Emma, Alex, Ben and Dave came back to the Mews to watch Limmy on YouTube, drink absinthe and have a band slam. Amazingly Em and Alex fell asleep with all the noise and stayed until the morning.

Tom and I went for an amazing last breakfast at Plan 9. I had French Toast.

Followed up with peacan pie, which made us miss Raven.

We went shopping for a little while in town. Carnaby Street has pretty xmas decorations with pink inflatable reindeer.

We had a coffee in the new look Starbucks. They had little individual cubby rooms with sofas downstairs, I quite like it.

I surprised Tom with little wooden London transport blocks, which I had found in Muji (my new favorite shop). He loved the little tube and routemaster.

Afterwards, we crossed horizontally (twice) at the new and improved Oxford Circus. It felt a bit like a game, because everyone bumped in to each other in the middle and got scared when the green man went red.

In the evening, we went through to see Lynz, Claire, Alex, Emma and Andrew in Ealing and had yummy Nepalese food for dinner.

Thank you to everyone who helped with names for my sister's new little kitten! She has to run everything by her husband and two kids, so I'm not sure what will happen, but I will post new pictures and let you know of her name when they decide :)

I thought I'd share some pics of MY babies! I haven't posted them in a while. They are now 5 months and 1 week old, and SOOOO big!! Neville looks like a full sized cat to me!
