I did start typing a huge long post but I got bored when re-reading it back to myself, so figured it would be way too boring for everyone else.
The main point was this - in one hand we have the drink-yourself-brainless brigade, consisting of men who get so drunk they cannot tell the difference between the toilet and their girlfriend's wardrobe, and think it's normal to sit in a bar for 8 hours ingesting £80 worth of booze only to share it with the pavement or indeed said girlfriend's wardrobe. Again. They condemn WoW because it's "sad" and players should "get a life".
On the other hand, we have the type of person who thinks that spending 15+ hours a day in a virtual world makes them much more healthy and intelligent than those who like to go out and stab people for fun. It doesn't matter if they feed themselves stupid food at stupid times, or forget to shower because they were too busy grinding to level 80, because they socialise in-game and have tier 200 gear. They partake in a harmless indoor hobby that they can quit any time they want to.
Both parties have been out in force this week, due to the release of Wrath of the Lich King, and I'm having trouble determining which side I hate the most.
Ironic that as I speak I'm playing Warcraft myself, I try not to place myself above anyone else, but dear god, what's with all this crap? Plainly the BBC would rather interview either the people at the head of the midnight launch queues, those who think they are justifying the cause for gamers everywhere but only make themselves look desperate, or those who think it's a concern, and highlights the problems young people face in this technology-ridden age, and that games are the downfall of society, blah blah.
Ok so maybe I'm feeling a bit cranky, and that was still quite boring. Just felt like having a wee stand on my soap box.
