Wow, I've had a busy weekend.
On Saturday, Rob left the flat. It was hard getting everything into the van, but it was managed and goodbyes were said. It was sad but hopefully Rob will move on to a nice job down south :)
I think over the last 2 days there have been more than 30 bin bags full of rubbish evacuated from the flat. Malcolm and I decided that it was best to get a move on right away, so that when he gets his Xmas/New Year holiday, it isn't spent cleaning. I had already decided that my £200 Xmas money was to be spent on getting new things for the flat, so my mum came and took us to Tesco. We put everything you could possibly need for a kitchen, (including some cooking and baking items) and bathroom into the trolley, which came to around £100, so I was pleased with that. I was even more pleased when my mum told me she was going to pay for everything. apparently, her and dad agreed to put away £100 to help me move out when the time came, so I was really chuffed with that.
After Tesco, we went back to the flat, where dad met us with a friend's van. My mum just dived right in and emptied the kitchen far quicker than I could have imagined! We got rid of pretty much everything - cutlery, plates, cups, glasses, old appliances, containers, pots, utensils... loads and loads of stuff. We also got rid of all the bathroom stuff. Mum and dad worked hard to get as much rubbish out as possible - we filled up the van and the car, then they took it to the skips down Riverside. After they left, Malc and I didn't stop - we scrubbed every surface, cupboard and inch of floor, we nuked the oven, moved the fridges, cleaned the bath, sink, toilet and loads of stuff. When it was all clean, we opened all of our new things and put them away. We also bought a new hoover, and I know it sounds silly because its only a hoover, but its really awesome :D
I have to admit, its been tough work and there is still a lot to do, but its going very well. Malcolm has been brilliant about everything, really getting stuck into cleaning and throwing away stuff he doesn't need or want any more. He didn't even touch a game until about 9pm yesterday! By the end of this week, the place will be completely different, and we have both resolved to maintain the shinyness :D
I'm a very happy girl right now, it's good to get the ball rolling, and hopefully Malcolm and I can continue to tolerate each other :p he is thinking about buying a 50" HD TV, which I'm sure will make putting up with his smelly socks worthwhile :p Not even my horrific toothache is bringing me down :D
Hopefully everyone can come visit sometime in the New Year, I'll know how to make cookies by then, since I bought a cake cookbook and everything :p
